Winning Promotional Partner For Summer Business Networking Bash 2013 + 2012

Once again Jennifer Beale of unLeash PR put together a fabulous Summer Networking Bash #sbto2013 in Toronto Ontario. This event was a perfect opportunity to connect for business networking and showcase your company, as there were literally hundreds of small business owners & business professionals in attendance.

I was thrilled to win the Constant Contact online marketing and social media marketing promotional partner contest for the second year in a row. My prize included a vendor booth at the event, my logo displayed on the side of Ontario Place and a package of spa gift certificates. What could be better!

As a promotional partner for this event I made several promotional videos. These were an important part of my winning promotional strategy. I loved making the videos and it was really gratifying to have attendees come up to me during the event and greet me as a friend because they had watched the videos! I had one business owner tell me, I was on their ‘must meet’ list because of these promotional videos.

One of the videos I made was a Tip Video. In it I explained several preparation steps you can use to set the stage so you can follow up after this business networking event and continue the conversation with EVERYONE you met. All it takes is a little preparation before attending.

This event is past but the tips are still relevant, so I’ve included it here for your benefit.

Have you recently started a new business and/or looking to grow your business?

The first thing you’ll need to do to generate new sales is build a list of prospective clients. People who are interested in products and services like the ones you have to sell.
 
Answer search
 
Whatever name you give it, prospecting, lead generation or promotion, building a list of prospective clients is an important first step of any business growth strategies plan.
 

 

Here are 3 ways to get started with your list building efforts.

  1. You can purchase a list of names.
    If you belong to an association and have access to the membership list, you have access to a purchased list of names.
  2. You can attend local business networking or association meetings and meet people one on one. There are lots of local business networking events near you. Simply go to Google and enter ‘business networking’ + ‘your city’ into the search bar to find business networking near you. To find association meetings, simply enter the name of the association and your city into the Google search bar.
  3. You can ask a business associate to introduce you to their group of business colleagues. This is sometimes called referrals or word of mouth marketing.



Numbers 2 and 3 on the above list require you to have, or develop, business networking skills and/or relationship building skills.

Recently I was invited to attend the Exact Target CONNECT Digital Marketing Global Tour, June 12 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto. Toronto was the last of their three stop global tour. This conference is quite important for digital marketing and many of the talks were focussed on list building, lead generation and lead nurturing through content. Building relationships through content delivery is also known as information marketing, education marketing and relationship marketing. Basing your follow up on the concept of education that helps, is the essence of the structured Follow Up Marketing ENGINE that I develop. List building to generate leads is important but following up for lead nurturing that builds relationship and develops the know, like trust you factor is critical to turning your leads into sales.

If you’ve been watching my videos and/or listening to my Conversations With Expert Entrepreneurs and/or Audio Training Webinars, you’ll know that the main focus of my business development training as The Follow Up Specialist, is helping my clients to integrate education marketing as part of their business growth strategies. Forrester Research discovered that when your intent is education that develops relationships, you’ll MULTIPLY your marketing results by 9 TIMES. Mitch shared his marketing and innovation insights during his closing keynote.

I was really looking forward to hearing Mitch speak because I have been following his insightful writing about digital marketing for several years, Mitch has been dubbed the “Rock Star of Digital Marketing” and “one of North America’s leading visionaries” by Marketing Magazine. Mitch Joel is an interactive marketing expert and passionate entrepreneur and he’s from Montreal Quebec, my hometown.

I caught up with Mitch at his table where he was signing copies of his new book, CTRL ALT DELETE, Reboot Your Business, Reboot Your Life, Your Future Depends On It. His book and key note highlighted the five massive moments that changed marketing and five actionable items marketers can implement.

How You Can Become a TOP 1% of Linkedin Profiles To Grow Your Business

When I joined Linkedin, the online social networking website for business professionals, in March 2007 it wasn’t common business practice.

In fact, when I mentioned Linkedin during business networking events, I often heard the comment  “I get emails about joining Linkedin all the time! I just ignore them!”  followed by the question  “Why would I want to sign up for Linkedin? Isn’t it just like Facebook?

Over the 10 years since Linkedin launched, business professionals from every industry and at every level of the business organization have joined Linkedin to take their professional network online and gain access to the wealth of social business networking opportunities.

 

During that time LinkedIn has grown to 200 million members.

In  February 2013 I received an email letting me know my Linkedin Profile was one of the TOP 1% of
most viewed Linkedin profiles for  2012.

 

Along the way to the 200 million member mark, Linkedin has become the top ‘go to’ online destination to leverage more business referrals and opportunities. Human Resource professionals research potential new hires and job seekers access the hidden job market. Business owners and business professionals go there to gather marketplace intelligence and connect with potential prospects and clients to grow their business.

Linkedin is the largest business professional’s network on the internet and it can help you to be found and to find other business professionals you want to be introduced to. You can use Linkedin to market your company and services and uncover partnerships with which you can collaborate to accomplish your goals.

Chances are, you’ve joined Linkedin and started to grow your online business network. You’ve probably set up your Personal Linkedin Profile, connected with business professionals you know and used the search bar to find and connect with people you’ve met during business networking and trade show events.

Today smart business professionals know that Linkedin should be an important part of their online marketing and business growth strategies.

The Linkedin platform can help you

  • Develop new business connections and grow your list
  • Cultivate a community from which you can obtain advice to handle business challenges and
  • To which you can offer your expert knowledge to help others and develop the know, like trust you factor
  • Promote your company to more prospects and develop warm contacts to win more sales with less effort
  • Market your services in a way that is NOT salesy, doesn’t involve cold calling and develops new client opportunities
  • Form part of your sales winning follow up formula of connected conversations that GROW your business

Unfortunately, although many business professionals are on Linkedin, the majority don’t know how to leverage this online social networking platform to build their list of prospects, or market their company to drive traffic from Linkedin to grow their sales. In fact over 50% say they believe they have made NO money from the time they’ve invested into Linkedin.

If you are not sure how to optimize your use of Linkedin, I’d like to share with you 3 of the follow up marketing strategies I’ve developed to monetize the time I’ve invested into developing both my Linkedin Personal Profile and the Company Profile for my business Kickstart Your Company.

Use these 3 Follow Up Marketing Strategies to optimize your use of Linkedin, the social business network, to become one of the TOP 1% of Linkedin Profiles and grow your business.

 

Strategy #1 – Build Follow Up Messages

I’ve developed messages to use when I accept invitations to connect and to thank people for endorsing or recommending me on Linkedin. I call these messages Follow Up Connection Tools and they form the foundation of my Follow Up Marketing ENGINE.

Following up in this way may sound pretty basic, but a recent recipient of one of my thank you messages, shared with me that of the more than 200 people he had endorsed, I was one of only two people who had thanked him!

Thanking people is not only a foundational principle of any social interaction it’s key to building the know, like trust you factor so critical to winning sales.  Additionally, peer recognition is an important component of letting your business community know you are an expert in your field. Make sure you let them know you appreciate their endorsement.

Strategy # 2 – Ask For Recommendations

When you have success with a client or help someone in you community, take a moment to ask them to put it in writing by recommending you on Linkedin. Recommendations provide potential clients and referral partners with social proof. You can tell your PAR (Problem Action Result) stories all day long but when the facts are documented by a 3rd party, it makes ALL the difference to whether you are credible or not.

The flip side to this strategy is to give recommendations. Thou shalt not only receive but also give.

Strategy #3 – Offer Your Connections The Next Step

One of the first things I learned in sales was to always offer prospects a next step. This not only lets people know what to do next but also invites them to move into a closer relationship with you. You want the business right? Remove the guesswork – let people know what to do next!

Business Connects -Toronto Networking Event With Jennifer Beale of unLeash PR

Once again Jennifer Beale of unLeash PR put together a fabulous business networking and business growth strategies teaching event at Business Connects. Jennifer produces this social networking event every year in support of International Networking Day.

This year at Business Connects we heard from Ronnis Doss, Cindy Ashton and Cindy Mount to name only a few.

How I Help You Grow – Business Growth Strategies

Let’s face it the business environment is changing and challenging and survey results over the last few years reveal an increasing focus on learning and implementing business growth strategies that increase sales.


 
In a 2008 poll by the Canadian Professional Sales Association, members identified one of their TOP challenges as
SUSTAINING SALES momentum throughout the year
 
32% said this was their toughest challenge.
 

In 2011 a SOHO (Small Office Home Office) survey revealed similar thoughts.
42% of business professionals believed that GROWING REVENUE would be their
biggest challenge.

Another SOHO (Small Office Home Office) survey asked members –
What’s your #1 reason for attending networking and trade show events?
57% responded – to SHOWCASE my company and INCREASE SALES.

I asked Mississauga Board Of Trade members a similar question –
What’s your #1 reason for joining? 90% responded to grow my network and
INCREASE SALES.

To achieve those goals, their top 2 areas of interest were to learn and apply proven
step by step business growth strategies to

• INCREASE NETWORKING outcomes
• INCREASE MARKETING effectiveness

There’s a common thread in these surveys of business professionals – SALES GROWTH.

Increasing sales is a priority for many of my clients also. They’ve attended trade shows and association meetings to market their company and find new clients just like other business professionals. The problem is, over the past few years, they’ve invested more and more effort but haven’t seen the increase in sales they’re looking for.

To be successful these business professionals know, they need to look at thier sales process and actively search for new tools to add to their business growth strategies tool kit to increase their ROI return on investment. One of the areas they’re looking more closely at is their prospecting and follow up process. They realize they’ve collected stacks of business cards but not seen the increase in clients they expected from these prospecting activities.

Look around, do you have stacks of business cards on YOUR desk? Maybe you’ve invested additional time entering your business cards into a database, organized them into binders or connected with people at online social networking sites such as Linkedin.

If you want to maximize opportunities when you’re out promoting your company and services, you’ll also need to seek out new ideas with which to update your prospecting and business growth strategies.

So how do you increase the results from your current business development efforts?

#1 You’ll need to follow up to the 5th -12th contact because the critical know, like, trust factor is only built over time.

The thing that stands out for me is that the majority of the cards in that stack represent people who weren’t ready to buy at the 1st contact conversation. Growing stacks of cards on your desk is a guaranteed outcome if your current prospecting practice includes only following up to connect with the people who were HOT and ready to buy when you first met them.

Did You Know? Only about 1/3 of the people you meet when you’re out promoting your company will be ready to buy at the time you meet them? That’s why 2/3 of the business cards you collect, end up in that stack lying on your desk.

Summer Networking Bash – Online Marketing Winner

Congratulations to Jennifer Beale of unLeash PR for a VERY successful Summer Networking Bash at Ontario Place at Atlantis. Over 800 small business owners attended this business networking event.

I was thrilled to be the winner of the online marketing, social media promotion contest for the 10th Anniversary of the Summer Networking Bash! Especially since I came in 3rd for the 2012 International Networking Day online marketing contest! Sweet Success! Watch out 2013 International Networking Day! :)

I won an Android tablet from Constant Contact and a booth during the business networking event from Jennifer Beale of unLeash PR for my use of online communications tools to promote and raise awareness for this event.

I utilized a combination of online marketing tools such as blogging on multiple blogsites, eMail Marketing, Database Marketing and Social Media Marketing through Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube videos.
